Greatest Derby Finishes

The Kentucky Derby has had some close (a length or less) finishes in its storied history. We've gone back through the charts and pulled 11 of what we think are some of the most memorable.  Though not every close finish is listed below, but it was our goal to get a good cross-section of recent (1999 - Charismatic) and older (1933 - Broker's Tip) races.  Please look at the brief descriptions below the poll to help with your selections.

1933 - Brokers Tip beats Head Play by a nose in the "fighting finish" between jockeys Don Meade and Herb Fisher
1953 - Dark Star wins by a head, handing Native Dancer his only career defeat.
1957 - Iron Liege beats Gallant Man by a nose when his rider, Willie Shoemaker, misjudges the finish line.
1964 - Northern Dancer by a neck in a record 2:00 minutes flat over favored in Hill Rise
1969 - Majestic Prince wins a three-way photo over Arts and Letters and Dike
1976 - Bold Forbes upsets heavily favored Honest Pleasure
1987 - Alysheba recovers from near-disaster to run down Bet Twice
1988 - Winning Colors holds off the onrushing Forty Niner by a neck
1996 - Grindstone nips Cavonnier in the final stride
1997 - A determined Silver Charm beats Captain Bodgit by a head
1999 - Charismatic half length win over Menifee gives Wayne Lukas his fourth Derby
