Listed below are the stamina numbers for the potential Belmont entrants. The numbers are derived from an evaluation (application) of the female influences within the pedigree (Modern Conduit Mares). The lower the number the more perceived stamina. Also listed are the tail female (Conduit Mare) aptitudinal designations and significant winners tracing to the conduit mare.

• Interactif (1.21) Dona Cecilia (B/C) CCA Oaks winner, My Flag. Two Broodmares of the Year.

• Spangled Star (0.83) Hamburg Belle (I) Florida Oaks winner, Anklet, G1 SW Bullsbay, multiple graded stakes winner, Grecian Flight.

• First Dude (1.10) Rambling Rose (B/P) A.P. Indy, Lemon Drop Kid, Summer Squall. Two Broodmares of the Year.

• Drosselmeyer (1.02) Consuelo (B) G2 stakes winner Hawkins Special, Multiple graded stakes winner Golden Ballet.

• Ice Box (0.82) Doxa (B/P) via LaTroienne's half sister Adargatis. Three Kentucky Derby winners, three Preakness winners, two CCA Oaks winners, one St Leger stakes winner, and two Broodmares of the year trace to Doxa via LaTroienne. Kentucky Derby winner Spend A Buck, 'Arc winner Ardan, and Jockey Club stakes winner Pardal trace to Doxa via Adargatis.

• Make Music For Me (0.92) Slippers (C/S) Graded stakes winners, Champagne Charlie, Lady Dulcinea, Heavenly Cause, Queen of Wilshire, El Basco, and Bounding Basque (who equaled a track record for 10 furlongs).

• Stately Victor (1.27) Court Dress (B/C) Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Charismatic, Belmont Stakes winner Go and Go, 2000 Guineas winners Refuse To Bend and Rock of Gibraltar, and G1 winner, Champion two-year-old, and leading sire, Deputy Minister.

• Game On Dude (0.86) Paraffine Lass (S) Preakness winner Master Derby, Oaks Stakes and St Leger winner Sun Princess, and St Leger Stakes winner Millenary.

• Dave in Dixie (0.77) Adana (I/S) CCA Oaks winner, Horse of the Year, and Hall-of-Fame winner, Twilight Tear, G1 stakes placed winner and sire Stolen Gold, and graded stakes winner Nightmare Affair.

• Stay Put (0.86) Last Line (I/C) Graded stakes winners Top Corsage, Single Dawn (won 12 stakes), Doremisollatido, Croeso, Ide, Super Max, and Slewpy.

• Fly Down (1.04) Tangle (B/S) G1 winner Giant's Causeway and his brother Freud, G1 winner Leroidesanimaux, Graded stakes winners It's Your Pleasure, Leroy S, Banks Hill, Champs Elysees, So Factual, and Hawksley Hill. Irish Champion two-year-old filly Sooker, American Champion two-year-old filly Dearly Precious, and SW Promising Lead (3 wins at 10 furlongs).

• Uptowncharlybrown (0.80) Frizette (B/P) Too many to list individually. Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew leads the list. All told there are three 'Arc winners, two Kentucky Derby winners, two 2000 Guineas winners, an Epsom Derby winner, a Preakness winner, a Breeders Cup Classic winner a CCA Oaks winner, a St Leger winner, and two broodmares of the Year.

My superfecta box will be: Dave in Dixie, Uptowncharlybrown, Ice Box, and Spangled Star.

Looking for a price, I will probably bet Spangled Star to win.

Looking at the way Ice Box was shut off in the Derby and the way he came home over coming all of that, it's clear to me that he is a "key" horse on my tickets.  Nick Zito is from New York too...

Ice Box wins at a very short price. Key this horse on top in all exotics and hope the bombers follow.

Nick finishes 1-2 but the lesser thought of one wins Dross and First Dude fight to complete the tri--Stay Put last barely over Dutrow

Fly Down wins easily. Couple him with Stay Put if you want a nice exacta. Toss Stately Victor.

Will bet against Ice Box hitting the exacta--think First Dude has them all over a barrel--Interactiv, Fly Down, Make Music For Me, Stay Put underneath in exactas--look for someone close to the pace to get 2nd, though, and I think First Dude wins by many lengths!

I think this Belmont is going to be an exciting one. Alot of speedsters and some stamina. My picks in no particular order

ICE BOX

FIRST DUDE

DROSSELMEYER

STATELY VICTOR

They are all super horses for a super big race. My exacta would be Ice Box and Drosselmeyer

(In my heart though, Dublin would have won this race) Rest up Dublin for the Haskell and Breeder's Cup.

Have to say thank you Summer Bird for a wonderful Belmont last year. I hope you have a great retirement and look forward to your foals. Once again Tim Ritchey you made a good call for Summer Bird.  Afleet Alex can attest to that!

Bet the house on First Dude, this horse is gonna be awesome! Looking for a longshot, how about Drosselmeyer & Interactif!

03 Jun 2010 12:22 PM
Ghostzapper

Stately Victor looks like a monster so I'm very curious how he runs a mile and a half. Ice Box will be overbet so I'll try to beat him. First Dude was impressive in the Preakness on the lead, but it will be tough for him to do that at this distance. So...

Stately Victor (Ghostzapper!), Make Music For Me, Ice Box

Think its going to be a nose victory by Ice Box over First Dude. Hope Uptowncharlybrown gets in there, but I don't think he will win.

Ice Box

First Dude

Uptowncharlybrown

Fly Down

These are not very exciting picks, but thats how I think it will turn out.

Superfector:

1.Fly Down- Gets johnny V and Zito has been quoted earlier in the year to his owner " you have a Belmont horse" , not just refereing to the track but the actual Belmont Stakes.

2.Ice Box- Closed well in the derby after multiple times being steadied. I had him to win in the derby but hard to bet as a favorite (need value !)

3.Drosselmeyer - 2nd over the track in the Dwyer , expect a big race

4.Stately Victor- Throw out the derby , can upset at a price !

My two cents ! Good Luck to All !

Yeah!!!  I had Drosselmeyer and First Dude in my top three

On any given day, and it happened. Looks like Nickie was the only one on the blog who called Drosselmeyer as winning. So good for you.

First Dude ran a great race, in the Belmont AND in The Preakness. Drosselmeyer comes in on the third leg, having had a long rest, and not running in either of the first 2 legs and wins it. That is manipulating the outcome. Period. Hats off to Winstar, you planned it just right. A win is a win. But I still content the rules of any horse getting to run in the third leg without even having the qualifications to run in The Kentucky Derby is just wrong.

And this win is exactly what i wrote about on another blog and was told "I just don't get it."

Seems I did a lot better in my selections than any, although I was slightly wrong on top (2nd) and my picks for the last and second last reversed. Box my top 4 you caught nice tri.
