Gio Kensei

Yesterday's Blog: http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/adamsturf/archive/2009/08/13/the-bald-caper.aspx

After filming and editing That Handicapping Show for about two months now, I have heard the name Kensei mentioned twice in different shows. The name Kensei was pretty interesting and what Jason, Tom, Evan, Les or any of the other TwinSpires gang would say, has finally caught my attention.

As I watched the Jim Dandy this year, which Pyro finished second in last year, I knew it was time to follow this horse. I am now a big fan of Kensei and will be looking for him in the Breeders' Cup.

While mentioning the Breeders' Cup, other horses that I am sure you are aware of that I am rooting on; Presious Passion, Quality Road, Colonel John, Asiatic Boy, Fatal Bullet, Game Face, Forever Together and Giant Oak (if Giant Oak gets his act together =) )

I also have to mention Gio Ponti. Gio Ponti is on fire. I remember the first time Evan Hammonds mentioned him to me and later in a episode of That Handicapping Show, I thought the name was odd, but his stats were loud. Lifetime 14-9-2-0, with this year being 5-4-0-0 and those four wins being consecutive. It is great to watch him be successful and I want him to do well in the Breeders' Cup.

I am not sure if he will be going or not though. I can' think of a reason not to have him run, with turf being the key and synthetics proving to be advantageous for turf favoring horses, it should work.

Jason Shandler asked Christophe Clement about Gio Ponti:

JS: And he's proven not only on turf, but on synthetics surfaces...

CC: Right, which is why we have to consider him for the Breeders' Cup Classic. It's one of four races we are considering. There is the Breeders' Cup Classic, the Mile on turf, the (Dirt) Mile, or the Breeders' Cup Turf at 1 1/2 miles. We have not made a decision yet; we have plenty of time to decide.

Gio Ponti also recieves a shout out from And They're Off, which just released its first episode in the new season. To honor that, I will embed it here for you. That Handicapping Show for this week also gives GP a shout out.

Considering who owns Kensei, what indication have you been given that he'd even be considered a possibility to run in the Breeders' Cup?

I think BIG DRAMA would destroy KENSEI

Art: That is a good point, Mr. Steve is not akin to the synthetics. It's just early to rule anything out and I am an optimist with hope the best in the country would go to the "Championships." Though I know about a third won't be there this year.

there is only one match-up anyone should care about and that is rachel alexandra against sea the stars, and if that doesn't happen then it is a crime. two best horses in the world. there are plenty of horses in europe that would beat gio ponti over 12 furlongs.

Hey Vince, there IS another horse worthy of acclaim.  I believe Zenyatta is 12 for 12, and don't think for one minute Jess Jackson isn't ducking the BC because of plastic.  It is because of the big horse named Zenyatta.

I hope none of you have forgotten Goldikova cos she put up an awesome performance on Sunday at Deauville and is worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Queen Zen and Rachel Alexandra.  She is a miler so i doubt they would meet but her record is tres impressive!  (FRANGLAIS!)

Very nervous now because in about 12 hours Sea the Stars makes his bid for Juddmonte glory with only 3 Coolmore horses to beat!  Therein lies the problem.  I hope to goodness there are no team tactics. I am sure Aidan would not really approve of them but you never know.  It has happened with Coolmore!  Though they got done for it so perhaps would be more sporting now.  Hope so anyway!

Sea the Stars deserves his chance to win fair and square.  Mastercraftsma is good but really, really pray that Sea the Stars can beat everything easily and continue on his merry way to superstardom!

Love Kensei and Gio Ponti too of course and was absolutely thrilled with Telling's win!

In fact it has been a great few weeks for Seattle Slew's dynasty with many top races being won by them including the Russian Derby - A son of Malibu Moon!

Have a great week Adam!

God Bless

Best wishes

Abbie

It's interesting that Asiatic Boy may be heading out of the Woodward because of the Fearsome Filly.
