The Fantasy Breeders' Cup Distaff?

As promised, here is part 3 of our Fantasy Breeders' Cup races, courtesy of Harry's bar & grill in Lexington.

In part 1, Secretariat won the Breeders' Cup Classic with 43% of the vote. In part 2, Dr. Fager took home top honors in the Breeders' Cup Sprint by garnering 41% of the vote. No surprise in either one.

I'm not expecting any surprises in part 3 either, as I'm guessing Ruffian will run away with the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Since this board was written many years ago, it obviously does not include Rachel Alexandra or Zenyatta. I'm sure it will be updated in the near future. But since we've discussed the whole Rachel vs. Zenyatta thing in detail already, let's leave them out of this one.

Could any of these beat Ruffian? On paper, they give the best chance to Twilight Tear, who was the first filly to ever win Horse of the Year in 1944. Personal Ensign, undefeated in 13 starts, also deserves consideration as the 5-1 third choice. She won the Whitney and beat Winning Colors in the BC. Im sure some of you would take a shot with Azeri at 30-1 too.

Some noticeable omissions on here are two-time champion Desert Vixen, 1995 BC Distaff winner Inside Information, two-time champion Go For Wand, Busher, who won Horse of the Year in 1945, and Princess Rooney, a winner of 17 of 21 in her career.

It's hard to go against Ruffian, but if I did, it would be with 1946 champion mare Gallorette. She defeated champion older male Stymie in the 1946 Brooklyn Handicap, and also beat males in the Met Mile and Bay Shore that year. Then she won the Whitney and Carter in 1948 as a 6-year-old. Not bad.
