Friday Fun -- Can You Name This Horse?

The conference rooms in the Blood-Horse building are all named for famous racehorses.  If you've watched "Part I" of the Losing the Iron Horse? video, you know that the Breeders' Roundtable was held in one of these meeting rooms.  Several times throughout the 14-minute show, you'll see a painting of a stallion (the first glimpse comes at the 00:15 mark).

So, pedigree fans, who can I.D. the stallion for whom this conference room is named?

And, for bonus points:  identify the author of the BloodHorse.com column that is titled after a famous mare in this stallion's pedigree.

I'd guess that maybe it is Man O' War or Secratariat?

Man O' War. Dam was Mahubah, of Mahubah's Corner. Author is Avalyn Hunter!

  • Scot's reply:  Well done!  Right on both accounts.

Man o' War

Bonus Answer: Avalyn Hunter - Mahubah'S Corner

Firebrand 25 Jul 2008 11:11 AM

It's Man 'O War and the columnist is Avalyn Hunter.

Adele Maxon 25 Jul 2008 11:19 AM

Must be Man o' War.  "Mahubah's Corner" was a great clue!  Avalyn Hunter writes that column.  Mahubah, of course, was Man o' War's dam.

Cleone 25 Jul 2008 11:49 AM

It looks like like Man o' War to me.

Avalyn Hunter is author of the Bloodhorse.com column "Mahubah's Corner".

As to the artist, Brewer. Is that the original?

  • Scot's reply:  You know your stuff!  Yes, that's the 1948 original by artist Allen F. Brewer, Jr.

The picture is of Man O'War.

The column is Mahubah's Corner.

Mahubah was the dam of Man O'War.

Man o' War

Avalyn Hunter - Mahubah's Corner - named for Man o' War's dam

Salem Poe 25 Jul 2008 12:50 PM

Man O War.  His dam was Mahubah.

Avalyn Hunter is the writer of the column

My first suggestion is that you get better lighting in that meeting room!

The horse in the painting looks like Never Say Die a little to me, but I can't really see the markings on the video.  He had the best name for a racehorse!

Hasto be Man'War

danziggirl 25 Jul 2008 10:29 PM

My only other guess would be. Fair Play and Mahubah. Fair Play had the same upright neck that he passed along to Man O' War.
