About those True Nicks in your article. I have used True Nicks for several of my mares with other stallions and I get many " NO Grades" simply because the company says that the two bloodlines are rare. I don't see True Nicks for us as a very usefull tool.

  • Scot's reply:  Thanks for your comments, Karen.  When TrueNicks was being developed, we set some hard-and-fast ground rules for the product to ensure that it is the most accurate and significant nicking tool available.  Several rules within the TrueNicks calculation guarantee a degree of statistical significance based on the number of times a cross has been attempted.  (A return of "No Rating" doesn't necessarily mean the bloodlines are "rare" by themselves, just that the cross of the given sire line and broodmare sire line has not seen enough direct crosses.)  The FAQs page on TrueNicks.com gives additional information about the "No Rating" classification, and a blog post on Jan. 14 explores the subject further.

I like the sectoin about 'rooking the books'. I have seen horses way out of thier league sell for almost nothing just because they were in the wrong book.
