It's been six weeks since our most recent "Name That Thoroughbred!" contest -- it's about time for another challenge
Once again, the winner (randomly selected from the best responses) will receive a $20 gift certificate to the Blood-Horse Photo Store.
Below are four images. Identify as many of the horses as you can and post your response as a comment to this blog. Make sure to include an email address in the space provided so that I can contact you if you win. (NOTE: I will hold all responses until noon on Tuesday, Sept. 30; all answers will be published and the contest will end at that time). Click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger version of the photo.

Champion 3-year-old ... leading regional sire ... earner of over $3.2 million ... descends from the female family 4-d blue hen mare Boudoir II. |
|
Shown in this Clarence Hailey/Newmarket image, this stallion was born in 1877. Jockey Fred Archer called him the best horse he'd ever ridden. As a sire, he transmitted coat spotting that would soon bear his name. |

The bobbing of his head was the only margin of victory for this colt as he and Mambo in Seattle (pedigree) (near) hit the wire in this year's Travers Stakes (gr. I). Naming the winner gets you one point; bonus for naming two other current sires who share the winner's broodmare sire. (Hint: the Stallion Register Online has a nice advanced search function.) |
UPDATE: The contest ended. Full results are here.
