Bob Black Jack Stuns

Written by admin | Jan 27, 2008

Even though the race took place at the "Santa Anita speedway," Bob Black Jack's Sunshine Millions Dash splits of :20.92 and :42.46, which led to a final time of 1:06.53-the quickest ever run on a track other than turf-more than likely makes him "the fastest horse whose pedigree you have never heard of."

We have to admit the name of the sire, Stormy Jack, left us completely blank. However, a little research reveals that he stands at Harris Farms in Coalinga, Calif., and that he was a well above average performer, winning eight races and $596,673, including the I'm Smoking Stakes at 2; the Oceanside Stakes and Real Good Deal Stakes at 3; and the On Trust Handicap at 4.

Stormy Jack didn't retire to stud until the age of 7, when his most outstanding achievements may have been forgotten. Stormy Jack's first crop - 3-year-olds of 2008 - numbered 35 named foals, and 10 of them have started, five of them winning, with Bob Black Jack being the only stakes winner.

Stormy Jack is a son of Bertrando and we were interested to find that Bob Black Jack earns an A++ TrueNicks score on the basis of the Bertrando/Native Prospector cross (Bob Black Jack being out Molly's Prospector, whose sire was the Mr. Prospector horse Native Prospector). Bertrando has sired five starters out of Native Prospector's daughters, and they include the multiple stakes winner Lady Bertrando. Bob Black Jack is the only runner so far by a son of Bertrando out of a mare by that horse.
