What's Up, Doc?

California's "secret-weapon" Unusual Heat was represented by another good winner in the shape of the Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) heroine, Golden Doc A. A sister to the Hollywood Turf Express Handicap (gr. III) winner Unusual Suspect, Golden Doc A is out of the New Zealand-bred Penpont, a daughter of Crested Wave (by Fred Hooper's star Crozier). The second dam is by Australian-bred Imposing, and while Unusual Heat is a son of Nureyev, he is out of the Danish-bred mare, Rossard.
Naturally, we were curious to find out how this international amalgam rated on TrueNicks, and very happy to see that with Nureyev getting a stakes winner out of a mare by a son of Crozier, the cross was an A++. Just out of curiosity, and to get an idea whether TrueNicks would have approved this mating before the Unusual Heat pair arrived, we tried Nureyev over a mare by a son of Crozier. This also came up with an A++ on the Nureyev/My Babu cross (My Babu being the sire of Crozier), so Golden Doc A and Unusual Suspect represent the extension of a proven nick.
