Golden Arches

Although he wasn't an overnight success, Arch has fought back extremely well, and earned recognition as a very solid racehorse sire. The last few years have been highlighted by Canadian Horse of the Year Arravale; English champion older male Les Arcs; thrice South African champion sprinter Overarching; and the ill-fated Alabama Stakes and Gazelle Stakes (both gr. I) heroine, Pine Island.

In the most recent weekend, he struck with Absolutely Cindy (TrueNicks A++ rated), a filly who downed the colts in the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes. Absolutely Cindy is out of the L'Enjoleur mare Ms. Boucheron, and it's interesting that Arch's only other runner out of a L'Enjoleur mare is Black Spicy, a graded stakes winner in Panama.

The key is probably the fact that Arch is out of a mare by Danzig (by Northern Dancer), while L'Enjoleur is out of Northern Dancer's most important daughter Fanfreluche. There are at least 24 stakes winners by stallions carrying Danzig out of mares carrying Fanfreluche, 14 of them group or graded. Two of these, including English champion 2-year-old Bint Allayl (GB), are by Green Desert, a three-parts brother to Aurora, the dam of Arch.
