We Have Seen the Future, and It is Brown

We were sufficiently impressed by Big Brown's devastating Florida Derby (gr. I) win that we went straight to TrueNicks to have a look at the pedigree.
The TrueNicks rating is always updated overnight, but when we looked at the pedigree on Saturday afternoon, the page reflected the state of play before Big Brown's win (see attached). Therefore, we were both delighted and surprised by the result - delighted because the program gave Big Brown an A++ score before his big win had any effect on his own rating, and surprised because Big Brown is by Boundary, a Northern Dancer grandson, out of a mare by Nureyev, a son of Northern Dancer.
The list of the best five winners bred on the cross shows that Boundary had already sired three stakes winners and a graded-placed horse out of Northern Dancer-line mares. Incidentally, Big Brown has some interesting inbreeding as Boundary's dam, Edge, is a three-quarters relative to Big Brown's third dam, both by Damascus out of Round Table mares.
