It's no secret that Giant's Cauesway is having another very good season. Currently sitting third on the 2008 sires' list, he has been represented by by 10 stakes winners this year, nine of them graded. He added a new grade I winner at the weekend when his son Frost Giant won the Suburban Handicap in a gritty style very reminiscent of his sire.
The weekend was also a good one for Giant's Causeway's brother, Freud. Freud, who stands at New York's Sequel Stallions was responsible for Dagnabit, a speedy 2-year-old who took the Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park. A member of Freud's fourth crop, Dagnabit is his sire's sixth stakes winner and twentieth stakes performer (he has a better 20% stakes horses to starters figure).
Both out of Mr. Prospector-line mares, Frost Giant and Dagnabit are a product of broadly similar crosses. Frost Giant, who was bred by J.M.J Stables is the first foal of the Gone West mare, Takesmybreathaway. He is rated A++ by TrueNicks. Dagnabit, a New York-bred, is out of Cool Ghoul, a daughter of the up-and-coming broodmare sire Silver Ghost (a cross that gives a 5 x 4 duplication of Silver's Ghost's broodmare sire, Halo). He is rated B+ by TrueNicks, the cross of Freud and Mr. Prospector-line mares having also produced stakes-winning and grade I-placed Quick Little Miss.
