The French Colonial Stakes, run over nine furlongs on turf at Belmont Park July 10, resulted in a first stakes win for Willsboro Point, a son of Point Given (TrueNicks, SRO) out of the Red Ransom mare Petrouchka. Rated A by TrueNicks, Willsboro Point is bred on the same Thunder Gulch/Roberto cross as grade I winners Balance and Tweedside.
Point Given himself may turn out to quite like Roberto, as his dam carries Alydar, a horse whose dam has pedigree ties to the distaff side of Roberto. Willsboro Point's pedigree also combines the genetic relatives Storm Bird and Nijinsky II, as does Point Given's grade II winner Go Between.
Four days earlier, the Miss Liberty Stakes at Monmouth Park was won by Dyna's Lassie. She is by Dynaformer (TrueNicks, SRO) (by Roberto) out of a mare by Thunder Gulch, so is a reverse cross to Willsboro Point.
