Plan, who looked extremely promising when winning a maiden on the second of two starts at 2, was unplaced in the Two Thousand Guineas (gr. I) on his 3-year-old debut. Fourth in a listed race next time out, he fulfilled his potential on his third start of the year, taking the Keeneland International Stakes (gr. III).
A son of Storm Cat out of Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) winner Spain, Plan is rated A+ by TrueNicks. In addition to being the product of two exceptional parents, he also has a rather interesting pedigree, as Storm Cat's sire, Storm Bird, is also broodmare sire of Thunder Gulch, the sire of Spain.
Coincidentally, another well-bred horse bred on the same cross made a promising debut recently. This one is the 3-year-old filly Mosaic, who is by Storm Cat out of Thunder Gulch's CCA Oaks (gr. I) winner Tweedside. Carrying the colors of Melnyk Racing Stables, Mosaic ran second in a six furlong maiden race at Belmont Park.
