Mare owners considering breeding to The Green Monkey (TrueNicks), who begins his stud career at Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds in Ocala, Fla., in 2009, are now able to research their mares with the horse on TrueNicks.
Randy Hartley and Dean De Renzo consigned The Green Monkey to the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Florida select sale of 2-year-olds in training at Calder Race Course, where he worked an eighth of a mile in :9 4/5. The colt's buyer - at a sum that is a world record amount for a Thoroughrbed sold at public auction - was Irish agent Demi O'Byrne, who held off Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock manager, John Ferguson, in an intense bidding battle that reached $16 million.
A son of Forestry, The Green Monkey is out of the winning Unbridled mare Magical Masquerade. She is a half-sister to Storm Cat's graded stakes-winning daughters Magicalmysterycat and Burmilla, and out of four-time graded stakes winner Nannerl, a daughter of Florida stalwart Valid Appeal.
