Mill Ridge Farm Sponsors Gone West and Johar

TrueNicks is excited to announce that the Mill Ridge Farm stallions Gone West (TrueNicks,SRO and his promising young son Johar (TrueNicks,SRO are the latest stallions to join the roster of sponsored stallions.

Gone West is a member of the stellar crop of 1987 3-year-olds that also included Alysheba, Bet Twice, Java Gold, Gulch, and Afleet, among others. Trained by the legendary Woody Stephens, Gone West won or placed in seven graded events at 3including a win in the grade I Dwyer Stakes. At stud he's had a long and illustrious career. He is the sire of 94 stakes winners and his progeny have earned in excess of $73 million. He is the sire of champions in the U. S., England, France, and Germany, Classic winners in North America and Europe, and has sired three Breeders' Cup winners. Gone West has added to his reputation on both sides of the pond in recent years as a magnificent sire of sires: Mr. Greeley (TrueNicks,SRO) , Zamindar, Zafonic, Elusive Quality (TrueNicks,SRO) , Grand Slam (TrueNicks,SRO) and now Proud Citizen (TrueNicks,SRO and Speightstown (TrueNicks,SRO) .

The successes of the Gone West sons at stud certainly bodes well for his 2003 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. I) winner Johar. An earner of nearly $1.5 million, Johar also took the grade I Hollywood Derby, grade II Oak Tree Derby and grade II San Marcos S. over The Tin Man. He has been represented so far by seven first-crop juvenile winners, a very respectable total for a sire whose progeny should only get better with age and distance.

Fantastic! Gone West and his sons deserve more respect and more publicity, he is on just the same league as A.P. Indy and Storm Cat. Not to mention being the sire of some outstanding stallions, including the sire of the great racehorse, Smarty Jones. Gone West embodies the prepotent sire line of Mr.Prospector with the strong broodmare blood of Secretariat.

I have a son of Gone West out of a Seattle Slew/Danzig mare, despite him being injured on the track and ending up as my top show jumper, his heart and athelticsism demonstrates the great cross this line can provide. My gelding is 18 years old and looks younger and fitter than a 2 year old, can still gallop out in :12 at his age and can jump a 5'6" fence without batting an eyelash. Gone West gives his progeny grit, soundness and big hearts, something we need more of in this sport once again.
