Three Chimneys Farm recently added their two new 2009 sires, Big Brown (TrueNicks,SRO) and Lewis Michael (TrueNicks,SRO), to the roster of Thoroughbred stallions that are available for
breeders to run complimentary TrueNicks ratings.
Winner of every race in which he finished -- he was pulled up in the Belmont (gr. I), his only non-win from eight starts -- Big Brown will
undoubtedly go down as one of the better 3-year-olds of recent years.
Winner of a turf maiden at Saratoga by 11 1/4 lengths on his only start at 2,
Big Brown opened his 3-year-old season with a 12 3/4 lengths romp in a
Gulfstream Park allowance race. From there, he took in succession the Florida
Derby, the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands, and the
Preakness Stakes (all gr. I), all by margins of greater than four lengths. Re-emphasizing his versatility, Big
Brown completed his career by winning the Haskell Invitational Stakes (gr. I)
on dirt, and the $500,000 Monmouth Stakes against older horses on turf.
A grandson of Danzig out of a mare by Nureyev, Big Brown has an
intriguing pedigree pattern with the similarly-nicked Edge and Syrian
Circle (both by Damascus out of Round Table mares) appearing 2 x 3, and his dam
carrying the sister and brother Thong and Lt. Stevens.
Lewis Michael is a brother to champion 2-year-old filly Dreaming of
Anna. The versatile son of Rahy has high-class performances to his name on
dirt, turf, and all-weather surfaces. A stakes winner on the Churchill Downs turf at 2, he won the Washington Park Handicap (gr. II) at 4, and capped his
career this year with a triumph in the Pat o'Brien Handicap (gr. II). There he
set a new track record for seven furlongs at Del Mar, while accounting for a
field that included Midnight Lute, In Summation, and Arson Squad.
