It's not a nick in the sire line/broodmare sire line sense, but we
happened to notice the other day that three of Empire Maker's six stakes
winners to date have Alydar in the dam. These include two of his three graded
winners - Mushka and Acoma - and Roman Emperor. Alydar is also in the pedigree
of Idol Maker, an Empire Maker (TrueNicks,SRO) 2-year-old who made a promising debut last
month, and is pointing towards better things.
A quick look shows that there are at least 14 stakes winners by
Fappiano-line stallions with Alydar in the dam, the others including champion 2-year-old Anees, and graded winners Navesink River and Ommadon. Of course,
Fappiano is a son of Mr. Prospector, and it should be no surprise to see Mr.
Prospector and Alydar working well together given that they are sons of Raise a
Native with similar pedigrees on the distaff side.
