Frost Giant Joins Empire Stallions

Grade I winner Frost Giant (TrueNicks,SRO) became the latest sire to
join the line-up at New York powerhouse Empire Stud. And it has with his
stud-mates, Empire Stud has made Frost Giant available for breeders to run
complimentary TrueNicks Thoroughbred pedigree nick reports.
Bred by J.M.J Stables Corporation -- from a mating planned by
TrueNicks partner Alan Porter -- Frost Giant realized $600,000 as a yearling at
the Keeneland September sale. Racing in Ireland at 2, Frost Giant carried the
colors of Michael Tabor to a three-length victory in the seven-furlong
Killavullen Stakes (Ire-III) only his second start. The following year he added
the Bruce Betting Kilternan Stakes (Ire-III) over 10 furlongs. Transferred to the U.S., and
campaigning for a partnership headed by IEAH Stables -- which retains an interest
in the colt's stud career -- Frost Giant demonstrated his versatility by
capturing last year's renew of the Suburban Handicap (gr. I) on the dirt.
Frost Giant is by Storm Cat's leading sire son, Giant's Causeway (TrueNicks,SRO)
,
a horse whose brother Freud has established himself as one of New York's
leading sires. Frost Giant's dam, Takesmybreathaway, is a daughter of Gone West and is a similarly-bred half-sister to Mutakddim, a successful sire in both North and South
America.
Frost Giant's third dam, Dance Number, is a grade I winner by Northern Dancer
out champion Numbered Account, so this is the family of Private Account,
Woodman, Not For Love, and Frost Giant's close relative, Bluegrass Cat.
Empire Stud stud also stands Sunriver, Defer, Chief Seattle, Midas
Eyes and Silver Wagon.
Sunriver (TrueNicks,SRO)
and Defer (TrueNicks,SRO)
are both began their stud careers in 2008.
Sunriver, a brother to multiple champion Ashado,
gained grade I honors with a win in the 2007 Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes
(gr. IT), and earlier in the season he had taken the Bowling Green Handicap (gr. IIT). At 2, Sunriver beat the talented Achilles of Troy to break his
maiden at Aqueduct, and at 3, he took the Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) and
captured third in the Belmont Stakes and Florida Derby (both gr. I).
Danzig's son Defer (TrueNicks,SRO)
campaigned in the Phipps colors, taking the
Laurel Futurity (gr. III) at 2. His dam is a half-sister to champion older mare
Inside Information (herself dam of champion 3-year-old filly Smuggler), to
multiple grade I winner Educated Risk, and to Diamond, sire of recently-crowned millionaire Silmaril.
The Seattle Slew horse Chief Seattle (TrueNicks,SRO)
placed second in the Breeders' Cup
Juvenile and Champagne Stakes (both gr. I) in only three starts after a maiden special victory. He has sired nine stakes winners, three graded, including Canadian champion 3-year-old Shillelagh Slew, and the La Canada Stakes
(gr. II) heroine Seafree.
Midas Eyes (TrueNicks,SRO)
, whose first crop are 2-year-olds of 2009, is a grade
I-winning sprinter/miler by Touch Gold. His victories included the Forego
Handicap (gr. I) and the Derby Trial and Swale Stakes (both gr. III), and he
was also second in the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash and Cigar Mile
Handicap (both gr. I).
Silver Wagon (TrueNicks,SRO)
moves to Empire for 2009, having spent his first
season in Kentucky. A winner of $1,162,193, Silver Wagon captured four graded
stakes, including the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) at 2, and the Carter Handicap
(gr. I) at 6. The brother to multiple stakes winner and graded-placed Rehoboth is by Wagon
Limit, a Conquistador Cielo son who upset Gentlemen (ARG) and Skip Away in the 1998 Jockey
Club Gold Cup (gr. I).
