A little
while ago we gave a call to Even the Score (TrueNicks,SRO)
, who stands this year for $7,500 at Millennium Farms in Kentucky. His first crop are 3-year-olds, and he was represented by a smart winner recently when his son Scorewithcater
captured the $100,000 Borderland Derby. Rated an encouraging B+ by TrueNicks
before his stakes score, Scorewithcater is out of a daughter of Runaway Groom
(making him inbred 4 x 3 to Blushing Groom (FR)).
Incidentally, Quality Road
(discussed here) and Scorewithcater are both by Mr. Prospector-line stallions, with Raise a Native (sire of Mr. Prospector)-line mares in their early dams, and from Mr. Prospector's own
female line. Even the Score has so far had 41 first-crop starters, 16 winners,
and three stakes winners, also including the Boyd Gaming's Delta Princess Powered by Youbet.com Stakes (gr. III) winner Four
Gifts (also inbred to Blushing Groom). He already has a total of eight stakes horses (yes,
half his winners are stakes performers). This is a promising early showing
for a horse that didn't run until he was 3, didn't win a stakes until he
was 5, and peaked at 6!
Bred on
a reverse of the Fappiano/Blushing Groom cross that produced by Even the Score
and Scorewithcater is The Pamplemousse (TrueNicks B+). The son of Kafwain-Comfort Zone, by Rubiano, cruised home in the Sham Stakes (gr. III) to set
up an intriguing clash with Pioneerof the Nile in the Santa Anita Derby
(gr. I).
