A Lot to Like on Preakness Undercard

One of the more impressive winners on the Preakness undercard was Everyday
Heroes, who is now 4-for-4 after taking the Hirsch Jacobs Stakes (gr.
III). Out of the Dayjur mare Lucette (and rated B+) he is a closely related
to Horse of the Year Ghostzapper (TrueNicks,SRO)
, whose half-sister is Everyday Heroes' dam. Both Ghostzapper and Everyday Heroes are by Awesome Again (TrueNicks,SRO).
In other action in the U.S., young stallions were in form (in addition of
course to second-year sires Medaglia d'Oro (TrueNicks,SRO)
and Birdstone (TrueNicks,SRO) who shone in the Pimlico classics). On the Preakness
undercard, third-crop sires Sky Mesa (TrueNicks,SRO)
and Posse (TrueNicks,SRO)
scored through Skylighter
(TrueNicks A++), who took the Allaire Dupont Distaff Stakes (gr. II) and No
Advantage (TrueNicks A++), winner of the William Donald Schaefer Stakes
(gr. III).
No Advantage became the eighth stakes winners -- impressively, seven of them scored
at 2 -- from Posse's first crop, and follows grade I winner Kodiak Kowboy
and multiple graded scorer Lantana Mob as his sire's third graded winner. Posse, whose sire Silver Deputy is out of
mare by Mr. Prospector, has done well over Mr. Prospector in general, and
particularly through Forty Niner, getting three stakes winners from four
starters on the cross, including No Advantage and Kodiak Kowboy. Out of a mare
by Tactical Advantage, No Advantage not only has a double of Mr. Prospector,
but also a double of Roberto, whose dam is bred on very similar lines to the
dam of Mr. Prospector.
The second-season sires dominated the Adena Stallions' Miss Preakness Stakes (gr. III),
with Heart Ashley (rate A+), by Lion Heart (TrueNicks,SRO)
, prevailing by a head
over Cinderella's Wish (by Speightstown (TrueNicks,SRO)
), with Trophy
Collector (by Strong Hope) third. Heart Ashley is a similarly-bred half-sister to graded winner Ashley's Kitty (by Tale of the Cat (TrueNicks,SRO)
), and has a nice
pedigree pattern, as her granddam is bred on a parallel Northern
Dancer/Secretariat cross to Storm Cat (sire of Tale of the Cat and grandsire of
Lion Heart).
