We mentioned the under-appreciated Sadler's Wells grandson, Singspiel, here a few weeks ago, and he had another juvenile group winner in Zeitoper (TrueNicks A++), who captured the Prix de Conde (gr. III). He's out of the English 1,000 Guineas (gr. I) and Oaks (gr. I) winner, Kazzia (who also took the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (gr. I) in the U.S.). Zeitoper is one who should improve with age and relish Derby distances, as he is a brother to the Dubai Sheema Classic (gr. I) victor, Eastern Anthem. Since Kazzia's broodmare sire, Zinaad, is by Shirley Heights, also the maternal grandsire of In the Wings, the sire of Singspiel, Zetoper and Eastern Anthem are inbred to Shirley Heights, a pattern that is in several other Singspiel stakes winners.
Rock of Gibraltar has been on a tear lately - he had three stakes winners on ‘Arc' weekend, including a group I winner in Europe and a grade I winner in Australia, and also had a U.S. grade I winner the next weekend. He was represented this weekend by Blessed Luck, who took Italy's top-race for two-year-old fillies, the Premio Dormello (gr. III). She is out of Pinky Mouse, who is by Machiavellian, out of a daughter to Cheveley Park Stakes (gr. I) and English 1,000 Guineas (gr. I) winner Ma Biche. By a stallion inbred 3 x 3 to Northern Dancer, Blessed Luck has four crosses of that horse's dam, Natalma, two through daughters.
