We touched on the pedigree of Sky Mesa (TrueNicks,SRO)
's latest stakes winner in our last post (Iroquois S. (gr. III) winner Thisskyhasnolimit) Another Pulpit (TrueNicks,SRO) son, freshman sire Purge (TrueNicks,SRO)
, got off the mark with his first stakes winner last Saturday when Macias took the Jack Goodman Stakes at Oak Tree-at-Santa Anita. He has an unusual pedigree, as his dam is a French-bred daughter of Tropular (by Troy, also the broodmare sire of Street Cry (IRE) (TrueNicks,SRO)
). Tropular is quite an outcross to most U.S. bloodlines, but does bring some interesting strains, as he has two daughters of Nearco and one of Nasrullah (both much more frequently found through sons), and his dam is inbred to the mare Fille d'Amour (from the family of the great mare, Plucky Liege, best-known in the U.S. as dam of Bull Dog and Sir Gallahad III).
When we get to Macias' second dam, La Miserable, we discover that Marcias has a very clever pedigree. La Miserable is by Miswaki (a son of Mr. Prospector) out of the Nijinsky II mare, Baranova. Purge's sire, Pulpit, is out of Preach, who is by Mr. Prospector, out of a daughter of State, a three-parts-sister to Baranova. So Macias has close genetic relatives 3 x 2 in his pedigree.
Elusive Quality (TrueNicks,SRO)
added a juvenile stakes winner, when his daughter Roan Inish took the Princess Elizabeth Stakes - Canada's top race for two-year-old fillies - on her North American debut, having previously raced In Europe. Roan Inish is out of the Regal Classic mare, Inis Glora, and is TrueNicks rated A++, this being a variation on the successful Elusive Quality/Vice Regent cross, which is most frequently seen working via Deputy Minister line mares. The dam was a multiple graded stakes winner in Canada at up to nine furlongs, and there is some pretty stout blood in this female line as the granddam is by Assert, out of a daughter of Vaguely Noble's full-sister, Viennese Rose.
