WinStar Farm is home to two of the top three stallions on the General Sire List, Distorted Humor (TrueNicks,SRO)
and Tiznow (TrueNicks,SRO)
. A former leading first crop sire, Distorted Humor burst on the scene with 2003 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness S. (gr. I) winner Funny Cide in his first crop. He hasn’t looked back since ranking among the top six stallions in North America in each of the past six years.
Tiznow too is a former leading first crop sire and he’s ranks just behind Distorted Humor at #3 on the General Sire List. He’s the sire of a pair of grade I winners in 2009 alone and 60% of his stakes winners have won at the graded level.
One of Tiznow’s top runners is the WinStar homebred Colonel John (TrueNicks,SRO) who returns home to stand alongside his sire for the 2010 season. Out of a mare by Turkoman, Colonel John won the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) and the Travers S. (gr. I) as a three-year-old. He retires as Tiznow’s second leading money earner having bankrolled over $1.7 million.
Speightstown (TrueNicks,SRO)
looks like yet another WinStar success story. The Eclipse Champion son of Gone West is already the sire of 18 stakes horses in his first two crops, six of which are graded winners, including group I winner Lord Shanakill. Only Medaglia d’Oro and Tapit have more 2009 stakes winners among this year’s second crop stallions.
The WinStar stud barn is also home to Bluegrass Cat (TrueNicks,SRO), a grade I winner by Storm Cat with his first crop set to run in 2010, Sharp Humor (TrueNicks,SRO)
a graded winning son of Distorted Humor who will also be a freshman sire next season and Spring At Last (TrueNicks,SRO)
a grade I winner by Silver Deputy, who enters his second year at stud in 2010
