He set two track records, one at Belmont and one at Monmouth Park and his brilliance is even more impressive when one considers how sound and durable he was. He started 12 times at 3 and 10 times at 4 (winning a combined five stakes). Overall, he faced the starter 48 times over six seasons, hitting the board 33 times. Weigelia is by Safely’s Mark, a son of Danzig and Champion Safely Kept, out of the stakes winning Obligato mare Turning North. This is also the female family of the great Davona Dale.
