If you wanted to win an important turf race in Southern California in 2002 and 2003 you had beat Johar (TrueNicks,SRO) to do it. The Richard Mandella-trained runner won or placed in 10 grass stakes on the circuit during that span, winning the Oak Tree Derby (gr. II) and Hollywood Derby (gr. I) at 3. As a 4-year-old he added the San Marcos H. (gr. II) and was the dead heat winner (with High Chaparral) of the 2003 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. I).
By the great Mill Ridge stallion and sire of sires Gone West, Johar is out of the Champion race mare Windsharp, a daughter of Lear Fan and also the dam of grade I winner Dessert. He is the sire of good North American runners like multiple stakes winner Keertana and also has a group winner to his credit in the Southern Hemisphere from his days standing in New Zealand.
Johar stands at Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington for a $10,000 fee.
