Formal Gold (TrueNicks,SRO) was one of the stars of the handicap division in 1997, posting front-running victories over eventual Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Skip Away in the Woodward Stakes (gr. I) and Donn Handicap (gr. I). Formal Gold also took the 1997 Iselin Handicap (gr. II) in 1:40 1/5, setting a Monmouth Park track record for 8.5 furlongs that still stands.
As a stallion, Formal Gold is the sire of 19 stakes winners from a variety of broodmare sire lines. His graded winners include Swale Stakes (gr. II) winner Adore the Gold, Semaphore Man, Trickle of Gold, Transduction Gold, and Miss Matched, a grade III winner who was second in the Spinaway (gr. I) at Saratoga. Progeny earnings for Formal Gold are in excess of $16,000,000.
Formal Gold stands at Esquirol Farms in Alberta, Canada, alongside Gold Legend (TrueNicks) and Kissin Kris (TrueNicks).
