TrueNicks welcomes grade I winner and three-year-old standout Eskendereya (TrueNicks). The son of leading sire Giant's Causeway will stand the 2011 breeding season at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky., in partnership with Stonestreet Farm.

Eskendereya became an early Kentucky Derby favorite with back-to-back dominant wins, taking the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth (gr. II) by 8 ½ lengths, and the Wood Memorial (gr. I) by nearly 10.

Eskendereya's sire Giant's Causeway is emerging as a promising sire of sires, with sons Shamardal, Footstepsinthesand, and First Samurai all having sired graded winners in their initial crops.

Out of the gr. I-producing Seattle Slew mare Aldebaran Light, Eskendereya is a half brother to Middle Park Stakes (gr. I) winner Balmont, a talented sprinter who also placed third in the Golden Jubilee (gr. I) and July Cup (gr. I). In tail female, Eskendereya traces to Almahmoud, ancestress of influential sires Northern Dancer, Halo, Danehill, and Machiavellian. Eskendereya carries four crosses of Almahmoud, being line bred 6 x 7 x 6 x 6 to that mare.

Eskendereya is the Egyptian Arabic word for the Egyptian city of Alexandria, the Mediterranean seaport founded by Alexander the Great. The name can also be rendered as Eskendereyya, Iskandariyya, or Al-Iskandarîyahclick to hear the Arabic pronunciation.

Eskendereya's fee will be announced at a later date.

With his pedigree and race performance, I don't doubt he will get a top book of mares.  I just wonder if they will be fragile or tough.  He probably could have been brought back to the races, but with his breeding he is worth more as a stallion.  I just don't like the way he went out.  I would like to have seen him come back into training and raced more, even if he did not win.

Robert,

There's a lot we can never know about the potential of this horse. Too bad he didn't race longer, but we do know he had plenty of talent. Also, by all accounts the injury was relatively minor soft tissue rather than skeletal.

I'm sure he'll be able to sire tough horses, especially when mated smartly --with respect to physical, conformation, and pedigree.

Arguably the best of his generation, there's no doubt that "Esky" will be a big hit at stud.  Although fate dealt a cruel blow to his glorious Triple Crown aspirations, there is every indication based upon the depth of his blue-blooded pedigree (top and bottom) that he may be the one to redeem the Storm Cat line as a Kentucky Derby-winner-producing source.  The coming of his progenies will be highly anticipated.

Esendereya may not have raced long but in his form you can see he would have been one heck  of a competator. sort of reminds me of curlin.look at his form... he is going to sire some beautiful foals.
