Travers Champ Afleet Express Joins

Travers Stakes (gr. I, video below) winner Afleet Express (TrueNicks,SRO) has joined TrueNicks, allowing breeders to run unlimited nicking reports on the stallion. The Afleet Alex colt will retire to Gainesway in Lexington, Kentucky.

From the first crop of champion three-year-old Afleet Alex, Afleet Express is out of the stakes-placed Distant View mare Expanse, a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Eye of the Tiger and stakes winner Wildwood Flower. The family also includes grade I winner Snow Ridge and Kentucky Derby favorite Sweetnorthernsaint.

Afleet Express has an intriguing pedigree, and will offer breeders plenty of options as they plan matings. Commenting on Afleet Express back in June, Alan Porter noted that Afleet Express is a Mr. Prospector/Mr. Prospector cross. Porter went on to explain that "Afleet Express also has two crosses of Northern Dancer, and one of his genetic relative, Icecapade, both reverse Nearco/Native Dancer crosses to Mr. Prospector. As far as Nearctic–sire of Northern Dancer and Icecapade–is concerned, we can also note that Northern Afleet’s dam, Nuryette, is inbred 3 x 4 to Nearctic, with the second cross through her third dam, Nangela (herself 1 x 3 to Nearctic and his three-parts-sister Sybil’s Sister). We can also note that Northern Afleet and Afleet Express’s dam, Expanse, are both Mr. Prospector/Nearctic crosses, with the Nearctic through three-quarters relatives."

In addition to the Travers, Afleet Express won the Pegasus (gr. III) and placed in the Jim Dandy (gr. II) while racing for Gainesway Stable. In his only start at two, he broke his maiden going six furlongs at Aqueduct.

Afleet Express will stand for a fee of $10,000.
