Yarraman Park Stallions Join

Australia is home to a branch of the Nearco line not found elsewhere in the world, that of Showdown. By Nearco’s son Infatuation—a top-class racehorse (he won the Dewhurst Stakes and Royal Lodge Stakes at 2, and the Greenham Stakes and Sandown Classic Trial at 3) but disappointing sire—Showdown was a brilliant juvenile taking the Middle Park Stakes and Coventry Stakes. He failed to win at 3, but rebounded to earn honors as England’s top miler at 4. Sent to stand in Australia, Showdown was twice champion sire, and twice champion sire of 2-year-olds. The best stallion from Showdown's male line has been his grandson Zeditave (by The Judge), a champion sprinter and sire of such exceptional runners as Assertive Lad, Assertive Lass, Sports, Typhoon Zed, Strategic, Chlorophyll, and Ruffles.

The legacy of the Showdown line is now being carried on by Yarraman Park’s Zeditave son Magic Albert (AUS) (TrueNicks). A dual group-winning miler, Magic Albert started his stud career at a modest fee, but he’s now attracting mares from leading breeders. Magic Albert has already sired 10 stakes winners, and what’s particularly notable is that six of those 10 stakes winners are group performers. They are headed by the Randwick Guineas (gr. I) captor Ilovethiscity; Albert The Fat, hero of the BTC Cup (gr. I); Magic Cape, who took New Zealand 2,000 Guineas (gr. I); and group II winners Master Harry and Something Anything.

Standing alongside Magic Albert is the young Danzig line horse I Am Invincible (AUS) (TrueNicks), who is about to commence his second season at stud. His sire is the Green Desert stallion Invincible Spirit, sire of French Derby (gr. I) victor Lawman; Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Vale of York; Fleeting Spirit, heroine of the July Cup (gr. I); and Australian group I winner Yosei. Out of the Canny Lad mare Cannarelle, I Am Invincible is bred on the same Danzig/Canny Lad cross as Redoute’s Choice and Desert War. His granddam, Countess Pedrille, is a sister to group winner Mamzelle Pedrille (also dam of the group winner O’Lonhro). This is also the family of Flight and Sky High.

On the track, I Am Invincible was a sprint specialist. He defeated Augusta Proud to take the 1100m D. C. McKay Stakes (gr. III), and earned another black type win in the Sir John Monash Stakes at 1000m. He also ran a great race against the mighty Takeover Target, going down by just a length when second in the Goodwood Handicap (gr. I).
