Stryker, Son of Fastnet Rock, Joins

It hasn’t taken long for champion 3-year-old and sprinter Fastnet Rock to emerge as one of Danehill’s most exciting sons at stud. With his third crop only 2-year-olds of 2010-2011, he has already been represented by 15 stakes winners, 11 of those graded, among them the group I scorers Wanted, Irish Lights, and Rock Classic, as well as current juvenile Smart Missile, the only horse to defeat Blue Diamond (gr. I) and Golden Slipper Stakes (gr. I) victor Sepoy.

For the 2011 stud season, breeders in Victoria will be able to utilize the services of Fastnet Rock’s talent son Stryker (AUS) (TrueNicks), who retires to Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, in Eddington. A very similar physical type to his sire, Stryker realized A$600,000 at the Easter Yearling Sales. At 2, Stryker was forward enough to finish a close third to Tickets in the Pago Pago Stakes (gr. II) after battling on the pace. Stryker continued to progress through a busy season at 3, flashing his credentials as a top sprinter with a very game tally in the BTC Classic (gr. III) and wire-to-post win in the Heritage Stakes. He also tooks thirds in the Golden Rose Stakes (gr. I) to Denman, with Shellscrape, Headway, and Phelan Ready among those behind; in The Galaxy Stakes (gr. I), racing against his elders; and in the AJC Challenge Stakes (gr. II).

Out of the Woodman mare Laetitia, Stryker is three-parts-brother to group-placed Exceed and Exalt and stakes-placed Seeking Attention, and half brother to stakes-placed Puerto Banus. His dam, a three time winner, is a sister to the MRC Schweppes Cup captor Conspectus. The granddam, Planet Hollywood, is a three-parts-sister to Christmas Spirit (granddam of the red-hot New Zealand sire Thorn Park and brilliant sprinter/miler Bentley Biscuit) and half sister to Champagne Stakes (gr. I) winner Euphoria, group winner winner Christmas Tree, and stakes winner Jewel in the Crown. Planet Hollywood is out of Joy and Fun, a daughter of the great mare Denise’s Joy, so this is also the immediate family of Joie Denise, Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy, More Joyous, and Miss Danehill.
