Dont over-look Norman Asbjornson. By a Preak winner Real Quiet, and same cross as one of my fav race mares Pussycat Doll.

Like Derby, looks like a battle between turf distance and dirt sprinters. Distance was victorious in the Derby, but I think dirt will win this round. MMM is the pick.

Interesting to see the similarity in the breeding of Shackleford and another famous (or infamous) horse...The Green Monkey!  Both by Forestry out of Unbridled Mares....HMMMM?????

BIGHEARTBREEDER,

Yes, that is interesting!-- but this is the nature of breeding, raising, and buying thoroughbreds. With so many genetic and environmental factors at play, even the grand-looking The Green Monkey at $16 mil is no sure thing. He's a stallion now, so he has chance to prove himself through his offspring.

Overall, the cross is under-performing as far as strike rate goes, but clearly top horses can come from it. Also on the cross is G2SW Etched, by Forestry out of BC Distaff winner Unbridled Elaine (by Unbridled's Song). Etched and Shackleford are the only SW from 32 starters on the cross.

Also consider Oatsee, the fantastic mare that produced Shackleford. Oatsee has now produced:

Lady Joanne, G1SW at 10f by sprinter Orientate

Shackleford, G1SW at 9.5f by sprinter/miler Forestry

Baghdaria, G3SW at 8.5f by miler Royal Academy
