TrueNicks Hits 1 Million Reports in 2011

For the first time in its four-year history, TrueNicks reached 1 million total reports run in a calendar year on December 22, 2011.

The ticker in the upper right of TrueNicks.com shows the current count.

Here's a rundown of the most popular TrueNicks stallions of 2011 who most contributed to the impressive total.

#1 - Bernardini (TrueNicks,SRO) - 8,781 reports

Bernardini was huge in 2011. Not only did his first crop of 3-year-olds hit the track this year, but he was flattered when selected as the first mate for Horse of the Year Zenyatta. Bernardini's top performers this year were Travers Stakes (gr. I) winner Stay Thirsty and Cigar Mile (gr. I) winner To Honor and Serve.

#2 - Scat Daddy (TrueNicks,SRO) - 7,240 reports

The word was out fast when freshman sire Scat Daddy's runners hit the track. While he raced only on dirt as a racehorse, Scat Daddy's offspring had immediate success of turf and synthetic. His group or graded winners in 2011 are Shared Property, Finale, and Daddy Long Legs.

#3 - Giant's Causeway (TrueNicks,SRO) - 6,590 reports

Two-time leading sire Giant's Causeway had another strong year in 2011. His top runners included Donn Handicap (gr. I) winner Giant Oak and Norfolk (gr. I) winner Creative Cause.

#4 - Hard Spun (TrueNicks,SRO) - 6,339 reports

Hard Spun had a very successful first season and in fact leads the first crop sire standings over Scat Daddy. His 24 winners and nine stakes horses include Superlative Stakes (gr. II) winner Red Duke.

#5 - City Zip (TrueNicks,SRO) - 6,299 reports

The perennially over-achieving City Zip was popular again in 2011. His graded winners this year included Workin For Hops, Majestic City, Unzip Me, and City to City.

#6 - Mineshaft (TrueNicks,SRO) - 6,158 reports

Mineshaft, who also had a great 2010, kept the momentum going in 2011. His top performers were Acorn and CCA Oaks (both gr. I) winner It's Tricky, Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Dialed In, and Kentucky Derby (gr. I) runner-up Nehro.

#7 - War Front (TrueNicks,SRO) - 5,955 reports

After finishing fourth on last season's first crop sires list, War Front's progeny trained on at age 3. His best of 2011 included grade I winners The Factor and Summer Soiree, and grade II winners Soldat and State of Play.

#8 - Harlan's Holiday (TrueNicks,SRO) - 5,826 reports

Relocated to WinStar for 2011, Harlan's Holiday had another strong year. His best runners in 2011 were group/graded winners Willcox Inn, Mendip, Dynamic Holiday, and Silver Reunion.

#9 - Candy Ride (ARG) (TrueNicks,SRO) - 5,769 reports

The most popular TrueNicks stallion last year, Candy Ride remained in the top 10 in 2011. Graded winners Twirling Candy, Sidney's Candy, and Kettle Corn performed on dirt, turf, and synthetic. In addition, Candyman E won the De Francis Dash, which was recently a grade I event.

#10 - Tale of the Cat (TrueNicks,SRO) - 5,733 reports

Consistent sire Tale of the Cat kept rolling in 2011. Gio Ponti won the Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. I) and placed in three other grade I races, and standout 2-year-old Overdriven captured the Sanford Stakes (gr. II). Always a force in the Southern Hemisphere, Tale of the Cat sired Trusting, victorious in two group II events in Australia.
