Filly 'Same Cross' is Bred on the Right Cross

This morning I spoke briefly with Brereton Jones of Airdrie Stud, who alerted me to a homebred filly of his with a very clever name. She is by Airdrie stallion Proud Citizen (TrueNicks,SRO) out of the winning Langfuhr (TrueNicks,SRO) mare Saramar—the exact same cross as Mr. Jones' Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner and champion 3-year-old filly Proud Spell. Hence the name, Same Cross.

Same Cross made her career debut Jan. 20 at Fair Grounds as a newly-turned 4-year-old, winning by four lengths. Just 18 days later, she improved to two wins in as many starts by easily beating first-level allowance fillies going 5 1/2 furlongs. She's got big shoes to fill as far as Proud Spell goes, but Same Cross is certainly a horse to keep an eye on.

Feb. 7 allowance win

In addition to Proud Spell and Same Cross, the Proud Citizen/Langfuhr cross has produced stakes winner Julmae, Monmouth Oaks (gr. III) runner-up Proud Pearl (a full sister to Proud Spell), stakes-placed Bellefire, and three other winners. The cross rates A++ on TrueNicks. Saramar, the dam of Same Cross, is in foal to Proud Citizen again for 2013.
