Several recent posts inspire us to take a quick look at some similarities -- perhaps coincidental -- between the pedigrees of Birdstone (TrueNicks,SRO), Medaglia d'Oro (TrueNicks,SRO)
, and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) third Musket Man.
As we've mentioned (here),
Birdstone's sire Grindstoned is out of a mare by Drone (whose half-sister Lady Capulet was by a son of Sir Gaylord), and his granddam is by Silent Screen.
Medaglia d'Oro's granddam
is also by Silent Screen. In fact, she's inbred 3 x 4 to Silent Screen's
grandam Sunday Evening, who was by Eight Thirty -- this is interesting as he
is a genetic relative to War Relic, who we've said (here) was closely combined with a
sister in the dam line of Rachel Alexandra.
Musket Man is by Yonaguska (TrueNicks,SRO) (who
carries Drone and his genetic relative Halo). Additionally, his fourth dam is half-sister
to Silent Screen, and his fifth dam is a half-sister to the fifth dam of Medaglia d'Oro.
